A double dose of mother nature hit the railroad in the past two months. Starting around 10:30 AM on Monday, February 11th, an ice storm bombarded the area. Some parts of the area received 2.5 inches of ice. No sooner than the ice had melted, the area got a round of heavy snow."

Downed trees brought down power lines through the city. Most of the railroad tracks were covered with large limbs and trees. Train volunteers worked several weekends to clear the tracks.

Then came Tuesday, March 18th and rain followed by more and more rain. Over 12 inches of rain fell in one day. With the ground saturated from the melting ice and snow, there was no place for the rain to go. Flooding all throughout the area was severe. Some parts of the railroad were under eight feet of water at one point. With only two weekends before opening day, the railroad announces there will be a delay in opening due to the amount of track repairs needed.

We appreciate any donations to help offset the cost of these devastating natural events.
